We believe Mas is more than something you wear for two days. It is an intentional act of creativity, transformation, resistance, celebration, and self-expression.
Whether you build every piece yourself or combine handmade creations with crafted elements, your Mas should say something about who you are, or who you are free to become.

What is BYMAC
BYMAC stands for Bring Yuh Mas and Come.
It is Berkeley Carnival Revolution’s approach to making Carnival more accessible, affordable, creative and personal.
Instead of requiring masqueraders to purchase an expensive, fully finished costume, BYMAC gives you the opportunity to create, customise and bring your own mas.
It’s Carnival your way.
Will there be a pay what you can package?
Our aim is to make an affordable and accessible mas experience. Pay what you can packages are not guaranteed. These packages are sponsored and offered based on availability. If you are interested in sponsoring our band please see our sponsors page.

Do I have to be creative or know how to make costumes?
Absolutely not!
BYMAC is for everyone.
You don’t need to be an experienced mas maker, artist, designer or craftsperson. You can keep things simple or get as creative as you want.
You can also use Mix & Mas pieces to make creating your costume easier.

Do I have to make my entire costume myself?
That’s the beauty of BYMAC.
You can make as much—or as little—as you want. Add your own decorations, use materials you already have, incorporate upcycled items, or choose ready-made pieces from Mix & Mas.
There is no one right way to bring yuh mas.
Can I use things I already have at home?
Yes!
In fact, we encourage it.
Look around before you shop. An old piece of clothing, jewellery, fabric, craft material or accessory could become part of your mas.
Upcycle it. Transform it. Give it another life.
Your creativity is part of the costume.
Are drinks & meals included?
No. Drinks and meals are not included. We encourage you to bring your own or support the local vendors along the route.
Is Mix & Mas cheaper than a full costume?
That’s the idea.
BCR’s Mix & Mas was created to make mas more accessible and affordable.
Rather than paying for every element of a completed costume, you have greater control over what you spend and what you create.
You can start with the BYMAC package and add only what you want or need.
Is there a theme?
Yes! This year’s theme Anonymask explores the idea of identity, expression and the freedom to become whoever—or whatever—you choose through mas.
A mask can conceal. It can transform. It can reveal another side of you.
For Carnival, who are you when you play yuh mas?
Is there a theme?
Yes—but interpretation is up to you.
Anonymask is the creative umbrella for the 2027 presentation, but BYMAC gives you the freedom to interpret the theme in your own way.
Your costume doesn’t have to look like anyone else’s.
Take the theme and make it yours. Visit our mas camp and follow us on social media for inspiration!
Can I play by myself?
Absolutely!
You don’t need to be part of a group, have a partner or know a whole crew to play mas.
Come by yourself, with friends, with family or meet new people along the way.
BCR fosters a safe space and welcomes all. See our Code of Conduct.
Can children play?
Carnival Monday & Tuesday participation is generally intended for participants 18 years and older.
Children may accompany their parent or legal guardian, with the appropriate supervision. Special provisions may be available for younger masqueraders 15+ accompanying their parent/guardian.
